RodMaker Home part 3
The old RodMaker location had a casting lane consisting of a narrow alley about 60 feet long. If you were willing to take the chance of successfully retrieving your plug over a set of power lines, you could push out to about 90 feet. Several casting plugs still dangle from those lines.
When I moved to the new location in 2006 I gained a similar alley next to the new facility. But this new casting lane was/is a full 20 feet wide and almost 200 feet long.
At the far end of the lane, are 4 colored pipes protruding about a foot out of the ground (inset). There’s a red one at 115 feet, a silver one at 130 feet, an orange one at 145 feet and a white one at 160 feet. These serve as points of reference for casting distance. I do a good bit of casting here. Other area rod builders some times drop by with a rod and enjoy casting here. A good many distance claims have been reduced to little more than tall tales on this casting lane, however.
Out back is a nice level grassy plot where we often mess around with fly rods. It’s a full 125 feet across by 70 feet deep. I often lose track of time while fly casting back here even without any chance of actually catching anything. It serves to remind me why fly fishing is so much fun – it’s about so much more than just catching fish.
To the north of the building is a full acre of unimproved grassland. It stretches 350 feet across the front. At some point, this will become a longer distance casting field. It won’t be sufficient for tournament surf casters, of course, but will allow us to push out further than we currently can. Although, most haven’t run out of room on what we already have.

I’m sure I MUST be a long lost relative that needs to move in.
LOL A nice set-up for sure and I can attest you work for every foot. Bravo!
Aw, this was a really quality post. Having the facilities to do the testing is important in your profession.
