New Magazine Writers
Over the past 13 odd years we’ve had the good fortune to have many well known and highly respected rod builders and industry insiders write articles for the magazine. I’d take a stab at listing some of them here, but it would fill an entire blog entry and I’d almost surely unintentionally leave a few out. Suffice to say that RodMaker has been truly honored to have some of the best folks in this craft penning our articles.
Last month another couple of well known rod builders came on board. First up is Billy Vivona who has done a great deal to take artistic cross wrapping into the 21st century. You may know him from his book, Decorative Wraps, which picked up where the earlier Dale Clemens book, Custom Rod Thread Art, left off. Billy will be penning a column on decorative thread wrapping in each future issue of RodMaker. He plans to tie the wraps in with David Boyle’s outstanding VisualWrap computer software so those who utilize that aspect of modern thread art design can kill two birds with one stone. I’m very happy to have Billy on board and I’m sure all you thread artists will benefit from his upcoming efforts.
Any of you who have been active in rod building or tackle making for very long will recognize the name C. Boyd Pfeiffer. Boyd has penned an amazing array of fishing related books, most notably for rod builders 1974’s Tackle Craft, and the updated and expanded later version, The Complete Book of Tackle Making. Boyd also operated a custom rod building supply shop, Tackle Crafters, for a period of time in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Boyd will be working on some general interest rod building pieces for us. Craft history, long forgotten rod builders, techniques, etc. That kind of thing. I can’t think of anyone more compentent to handle this than Boyd.
The addition of these two respected and capable rod builders will only make RodMaker an even better publication than it is now. I’m happy to have them on board. Expect to see their first articles in the Volume 13 #5 issue of the magazine, due out in October.
